GET INVOLVED IN THE HCA COMMUNITY
The Health Careers Academy is more than just coursework and certifications, it's a vibrant community where students support one another, develop leadership skills, explore healthcare careers, and build lasting connections. Whether you're looking for academic support, want to take on a leadership role, or simply want to get involved in fun events and activities, there are countless ways to engage with the HCA beyond the classroom. Explore the opportunities below to make the most of your HCA experience!
Academic Mentoring
The HCA Academic Mentoring program provides free peer tutoring to support student success across all classes. Trained HCA upperclassmen offer help with studying, reviewing content, preparing for exams, and developing effective study strategies in a comfortable, encouraging environment. Mentoring sessions are available multiple times per week during Royal Time, lunch, and before school. Whether you need help in a specific subject or just want to strengthen your study skills, our peer mentors are here to support you!
Leadership Committee
The HCA Leadership Committee is a student-led group that drives academy culture, events, and initiatives. Committee members serve as ambassadors for the HCA, representing the program at recruitment events, organizing activities, mentoring peers, and providing input on program decisions. This is an opportunity for motivated students to develop leadership skills, build connections with industry partners, and make a meaningful impact on the HCA community.
Events & Activities
The HCA offers a variety of events and activities throughout the year to build community, explore healthcare careers, and have fun! From field trips to Cottage Health and other healthcare facilities, to guest speaker presentations from medical professionals, to social events like jeopardy competitions and holiday celebrations, there's always something happening in the HCA. Students also participate in recruitment activities at local junior highs, attend college and career fairs, and engage in service projects that give back to the community. These experiences help students build lasting friendships, discover new interests, and develop a strong sense of belonging within the academy.
